Vagas trailed 8-5 at half-time with their points coming from a Jason Bowden try.
A penalty from skipper Johnny Beckley levelled the scores at 8-8 but, just when it looked like the game was going to finish all square, Wigan picked up a try in the closing minutes to take both points.
