There was the narrowest of defeats for Vagabonds in EuroManx South Lancashire Cheshire Division One on Saturday – despite a hat-trick of tries from Ewald Killian.
Vagas fought back from 20-0 down but slipped to a 26-27 home defeat to the Wirral.
After a highly disappointing start, Vagas came back and tries from Killian and Arnie van den Berg, both converted by Johnny Beckley, brought them to within six points of the visitors.
A further try and conversion extended Wirral’s lead to 27-14 before two more Killian tries and another Beckley conversion brought them within a point but Wirral held on for victory.
