Vikings A on brink of first mixed title in 29 years

They haven't won the mixed top flight title since 1989/90

Vikings A will win their first top flight in mixed hockey since 1990 if they get a point against Bacchas A tomorrow.

The Cronkbourne side have been the dominant force in the PwC Mixed Premier League for the last six years in a row but the title is out of their hands.

A stalemate will be enough to give Vikings an unassailable lead at the summit of the top division.

In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, two goals from Kim Carney helped Vikings A to a narrow 4-3 victory.

Further goals from Tim Henderson and Tom Wilson from penalty corners eclipsed a Karl Moore strike and a double from Jamie Brown.

The result gave Vikings the upper hand in the title race and they haven't surrendered their advantage since.

Vikings also have a game-in-hand on this weekend's opponents, but they'll be keen to seal the league crown at the first attempt.

As well as the two teams battling it out, there's also a separate contest between Andy Whiting (Bacchas) and Tom Wilson (Vikings) to finish as the league's top scorer.

Whiting currently has the edge there, with 13 goals to Wilson's 12.
