Shaun Wylde wins at NI Xmas Champs
A young Manx weightlifter has had success at a competition in Northern Ireland today.
Competing against seniors, 18-year-old Shaun Wylde won the 77kg category in the Christmas Championships, which is taking place in Newry.
He lifted so well he would have even got a bronze in the 85kg category, which was also against senior lifters.
In doing so, he has qualified for the British Weightlifting Championships in September, where he'll compete in the Under-20 77kg category.
Wylde lifted 90kg in the Snatch and 120kg in the Clean and Jerk, giving him a total of 210kg.
He'd needed 190kg to qualify for the British Championships.
