Mark Cavendish's Team Sky colleague Bradley Wiggins thinks the Manx Missile may have to leave the outfit to further his career.
Sky are prioritising general classification wins rather than individual stage victories, as they did at the Tour de France.
Yellow jersey winner Wiggins feels Cavendish would achieve more personal success elsewhere.
"Unfortunately for Mark, the two don't really go well together," said Wiggins. "I enjoy his company but I understand why he has to leave."
Cavendish has just over two years left on his contract.
Sky boss Dave Brailsford has already said the world road race champion can move on if he wants, but added they were very proud to have him at Team Sky.
