A suspect has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in North Lanarkshire.

The body of John McMonigle, 45, was found within a property in Glenhove Road, Cumbernauld, at about 9.20am last Wednesday.

Police Scotland said Mr McMonigle had sustained "serious injuries" and launched a murder investigation following a post-mortem examination.

Antony Lamb, 37, was arrested and charged in connection with Mr McMonigle's death.

Lamb appeared before Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday, where he made no plea to the single charge of murder.

The suspect, from Cumbernauld, was remanded in custody and is due back in the dock within the next eight days.

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, senior investigating officer, said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr McMonigle's family at what is an extremely difficult time for them.

"They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected.

"A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries are ongoing. I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as our investigation continues."
