Little Aedan celebrates walking away from dialysis

He's raising money for 2024 British Transplant Games

A little boy from the Isle of Man is fundraising after receiving a kidney transplant just before his third birthday.

Aedan Klieve is celebrating walking away from dialysis to raise money for the 2024 British Transplant Games, where he's been invited to represent the Alder Hey Kidney Transplant Team.

Donations allow for families to attend this annual event which celebrates life, promotes organ donation and allows families to meet others who have been on similar journeys.

Today Aedan will walk for three hours, this time representing how long he spent on dialysis.

He travelled for treatment from the Isle of Man every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until shortly before his third birthday when a donor was found.

Dialysis meant that Aedan had to sit for three hours and after treatment he would be tired and spent a lot of time sleeping.

Aedan was delayed in his mobility because of so much time spent in a cot although has started walking after he received his transplant.

The Steam Packet Company has supported travel costs for Aedan.

With limited weekend flights, Aedan spent almost two years travelling by boat on a Friday night and Saturday afternoon for him to receive his Saturday morning dialysis.
