Victims made to file sworn statement
A pro-choice campaign group says updating the law on abortion would make it easier for victims of rape.
The current legislation allows for pregnancies to be terminated if they are a result of 'unlawful sexual intercourse' - but victims must file a sworn statement reporting the crime first.
Under the proposed new rules, abortions would be made freely available under any circumstances up to 14 weeks, and beyond that in extraordinary cases.
Pro-life campaigners say both the woman and unborn child should be treated as survivors of abuse.
