MHK queries assessment on low-income residents
Treasury has no plans to assess the impact of rising telecommunication costs on low-income residents.
Minister Alex Allinson told the House of Keys it wouldn’t be ‘practical’ adding that telecoms costs already feed into inflation figures.
Earlier this month Manx Telecom introduced a 12.5 per cent hike on telecoms services including broadband, fixed line and legacy mobile tariffs; it blamed ‘global inflationary pressures’.
It led to a question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse who asked what assessment was being carried out.
In response Dr Allinson said telecoms data already makes up part of the inflation figures:
