Demand hit by other accommodation types
A Douglas hotelier says the growth of new tourism accommodation, such as glamping pods and yurts, means she needs to convert her building into apartments.
Delia Maguire of the Trevelyan Hotel, on Queens Promenade, has applied for planning permission to transform the building into 15 flats.
In her application she says she'd like to demolish parts of the six-storey building and create new homes.
Miss Maguire says the hotel is outdated compared to modern facilities.
The application says the building contains communal bathrooms which aren't appropriate for a modern hotel.
Miss Maguire points out the apartments could still be used to accommodate tourists or be registered for the TT Homestay scheme.
But she says businesses such as glamping, yurts, boat stays - and a growth in tourism accommodation outside the capital - has affected demand.
And she adds creating the 15 apartments is necessary to maintain and utilise the building in future.
