A soldier educated in the Island has received a bravery award for his work in Afghanistan.
Sergeant Mark Moffitt is in London today to collect a Mention in Despatches honour.
He used to go to St Ninian’s High School, and his brothers and grandmother still live here.
He's being honoured for foiling an enemy ambush while serving with 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Regiment.
Sergeant Moffitt says the convoy was ambushed on three sides:

Inflation rate unchanged in May
Carers: 'They are often the quiet heroes of our Island'
Hooper: 'Time to bite the bullet and build new hospital'
'No final decisions' made yet about relocating dementia patients says Manx Care
'We want to provide a facility for almost anybody'
