Area a magnet for marine rubbish
Beach Buddies are at Pooil Vaaish in the south of the Island this morning (Sun)
Volunteers will be on the coastline close to the black limestone quarry, an area hit by severe storms earlier this year, leaving it with huge piles of marine rubbish and rotting seaweed.
Buddies boss, Bill Dale, says Pooill Vaaish and most of the nearby southern coastline acts like a magnet to marine rubbish with items such as plastic bottles, fast food wrappers and commercial fishing gear becoming trapped in the bays and coves between Port St Mary and Derbyhaven.
It's one of the last remaining areas to be tackled by the Buddies, who will follow up today's session with an assault on Perwick Bay in a fortnight's time.
This morning's session starts at 10.30am and as usual the Buddies will provide all the equipment. and recycle as much rubbish as possible.
Those attending can use the track through Pooill Vaasih farm - but are asked to drive with care as there could be livestock and people around.
