Consultation results on Onchan Park

The future of a well-loved attraction on the Island has stirred up public debate.

Commissioners have published the results of a recent consultation on Onchan Park, which they say attracted a 'large response'.

Since it opened in 1951, Onchan Park has served as a recreational hub for Islanders of all ages.

But the local authority says parts of it now look 'worn and old' - and in February launched an informal 'call for ideas' for the site.

The overwhelming consensus is that the park is 'running well', and existing facilities like the children's play area and tennis courts should be held on to.

But ageing attractions like the crazy golf course and boating lake are all due for overhaul - with suggestions ranging from a seasonal beer tent to an ice rink.

Opinions on Nivison Stadium are divided, with some calling for a new 'community sports facility' in its place.

The responses are due to be debated by Commissioners in the coming weeks.
