Culture Vannin tells of Manx quaaltagh tradition
With 2019 coming to an end, Culture Vannin is offering some words of wisdom about starting the new year.
The organisation advises you make sure the right sort of person is the first through your door in 2020, or else your luck could be amiss for the year ahead.
Similar to the 'First Footer' tradition in other parts of the British Isles, the Manx quaaltagh tradition gives luck to some people, and bad luck to others.
Florence Kinvig recalls the memory of her neighbour when the coalman was the quaaltagh, first person through her door, in the new year:
