Online group calls for change of heart
An online group and petition have been set up to save the Bowling Green Cafe in Castletown.
The person running the cafe, Ellen Corkish, has taken to Facebook to say she's been given notice by the town's commissioners that they want to close it.
In her post she says they have told her the board agreed it was not in the interests of the town's ratepayers to commit to the significant expenditure required to bring what is in effect a lean-to structure up to an acceptable standard.
She says she will be continuing to run the cafe for the duration of the summer.
The Facebook group and change.org petition have been set up by people in support of Ellen Corkish.
On Friday lunchtime the chairman of Castletown Commissioners, Richard McAleer, told the Facebook group he had just set up a meeting with the tenant and the board to discuss the matter face-to-face.
