Island's built heritage at stake says petitioner
A clarion call's been made for scores of historic buildings in the Island to be listed.
A petition presented on Tynwald Day this week (6 July) claims 275 structures - from the MER railway to gate houses - have no official protection.
Petitioner Charles Guard claims the government is failing in its duty to protect and maintain the Island's historic built heritage.
He says funding for a conservation officer's post to oversee a listed buildings register, has been lost - and without action, many buildings worth saving will simply fall down or be sold.
Mr Guard says although money is tight, important assets are at stake:
Mountain Road to stay closed overnight
BMA finds less than a quarter of doctors recommend working at Manx Care
Thirteen people entered or tried to enter the Island without immigration permission since January 2025
Abuse towards bus drivers 'will not be tolerated'
