Island's built heritage at stake says petitioner
A clarion call's been made for scores of historic buildings in the Island to be listed.
A petition presented on Tynwald Day this week (6 July) claims 275 structures - from the MER railway to gate houses - have no official protection.
Petitioner Charles Guard claims the government is failing in its duty to protect and maintain the Island's historic built heritage.
He says funding for a conservation officer's post to oversee a listed buildings register, has been lost - and without action, many buildings worth saving will simply fall down or be sold.
