Cannan says reaching milestone has 'never been' a formal government ambition
Increasing the population to 100,000 has "never been" a formal government ambition, according to the chief minister.
Alfred Cannan was responding to a question in Tynwald about the potential impact such growth could have on public services.
However, in the 2024/2025 Island Plan, his foreword referred to a "bold vision" for the next 10 to 15 years - including "5,000 new jobs, a £10 billion economy, and a target population of 100,000."
Mr Cannan says he needed to provide clarity around the number:
Vote on Castle Rushen High School funding 'very unlikely' before election
Ramsey Commissioners to host public meeting about cottage hospital
WCAS reuse garages to reopen on trial basis
Manannan's morning sailings cancelled due to weather conditions
