German Commissioners have agreed to the decision by the Department of Infrastructure to enter into a Covenant with the Commissioners over the use of land near Poortown Quarry as a temporary store for silt from Peel marina.
The silt is contaminated with higher than normal levels of heavy metals, a legacy of the Island's mining past.
The move follows a public meeting at St John's at which the proposal had overwhelming support.
Chairman of German Commissioners, Matthew Wadsworth, says negotiations with government are still ongoing but says the move brings them some re-assurance:
