40% reduction in quotas for 2019 queen scallop season
A spokesperson for the Manx Fish Producers Organisation says government data on the health of queenie stocks in Manx waters is unreliable, because of the size of the sample used.
Many of the Island's fishermen have queried the results of a Bangor University survey, which was the reason for a 40% reduction in quotas for queenie hauls for the 2019 season, starting from yesterday.
David Beard argues a wider bank of evidence could've produced a different result:
Environment Minister Geoffrey Boot says that quota reduction will be reviewed in four week's time, after further surveying is carried out.
