Cahuzac jailed for tax fraud
A former French minister once known as a 'tax evasion fighter' has been jailed for tax fraud involving a Manx bank account.
Jerome Cahuzac was sentenced to three years on Friday 9th by a Paris court.
Mr Cahuzac's brief as part of former president Francois Hollande's administration was to crack down on tax dodgers in the country.
But on Friday, he found himself before judges and was found guilty of the very same indiscretion.
The offences relate to a cosmetic surgery business run by him and his ex-wife Patricia Menard, who was also handed a two-year prison sentence for her involvement in hiding millions of Euros in Swiss banks.
The couple were accused in 2014 of storing £2.5 million in an RBS account here on the Island, used to funnel revenue from UK clients.
Two Swiss men - a banker and a lawyer - were also fined almost half a million Euros each for their involvement in the case.
