42-year-old had young daughter in the car at the time
A Douglas man will be sentenced in May after admitting drink driving whilst his young daughter was in the car.
Brian John Jago-Smith, of Mona Street, was stopped by police at 10am on Shore Road in Port St Mary on 18 March.
The 42-year-old’s Ford Mondeo had been seen ‘weaving’ before mounting the kerb – when officers spoke to him they noted he smelt of intoxicants, was slurring and his eyes were glazed.
Jago-Smith failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters where further tests showed he was more than twice the legal limit.
He told police he’d drank alcohol the night before but had slept for eight hours and claimed the manner of his driving was due to a damaged tyre.
Jago-Smith’s advocate told the court: “He thought he was fit to drive – he clearly wasn’t. But he took that decision at a time of stress.”
A social enquiry report has been requested before he’s sentenced on 2 May – he’s been bailed until that date.
