Castletown man more than two and a half times over limit
Magistrates have handed a drink-driver a three-year ban after he crashed into a parked car.
Fifty-nine-year-old Patrick Henry Smith of Callow’s Yard in Castletown appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
At an earlier hearing, he’d admitted a single charge of drink driving.
Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the court a woman rang police on 3 February after seeing Smith crash his silver Audi and drive off.
After the crash in Malew Street in Castletown, police searched the area and found the Audi in a car park outside the police station on Farrant’s Way.
They found Smith in a courtyard in Callow’s Yard – he was obviously drunk and wouldn’t identify himself to police.
The court heard specialist equipment later showed he was more than two and a half times over the limit.
Magistrates banned him from the roads for three years and ordered him to complete 120 hours of community service.
Smith will also spend two years on probation and has to pay £120 towards prosecution costs.
