But overall volumes still highest seen in last four years
There was a 20 per cent drop in the amount of people attending Noble's emergency department with winter respiratory illnesses in the first week in January.
That's according to the latest surveillance of winter illnesses from government, compared to figures from the week before that.
According to the statistics, the decrease has been seen in those aged between 0-4 as well as for those aged 65 and over.
However, government notes current volumes overall are the highest seen in the last four years.
The numbers exceed the previous peak in 2020 by 95 per cent.
