Exhibition marking VE Day anniversary showcases wartime photography and unseen works
A new exhibition celebrating the life and work of Manx photojournalist Leonard McCombe is now open at the House of Manannan in Peel, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
‘Through the Lens of War’ showcases his images from the closing stages of the Second World War, captured across Europe, Germany and Poland.
McCombe later went on to work for Life magazine, where his photography contributed to the creation of the iconic Marlboro Man campaign.
Curator of Art and Social History Matthew Richardson says it’s not often you encounter an archive that has virtually been forgotten:
The exhibition runs from 8 May to 5 October, with free admission and donations welcome.
