Onchan woman filed fake report against husband
The case against an Onchan woman who’s twice falsely accused her husband of raping her has been adjourned until April.
Forty-one-year-old Emma Louise Hannibal of Nursery Avenue admitted wasting police time when she appeared before magistrates.
The court heard she’d contacted police on 30 September, claiming her husband had raped and indecently assaulted her.
She also told officers he’d sexually assaulted their children – allegations she later withdrew, admitting they’d been completely untrue.
Her partner spent seven hours in police custody when he was arrested following her claims.
The hearing was told officers had spent a total of 65 hours investigating the allegations, and Hannibal had been convicted of an identical offence in 1997.
Her case was adjourned while pre-sentencing reports are compiled.
She was bailed in the sum of £500, and will appear again on 18 April.
