Douglas school asks for help finding suitable properties
Issues with teacher shortages on the Island have been well documented in recent months, and at Ballakermeen High School, new appointments have been made.
Some are already Island based, but others are being recruited from further afield.
Headteacher Adrienne Burnett says while she's happy to have a full staff list – the problem comes in finding some of them places to live.
The school posted a plea on Facebook for anyone with suitable accommodation to get in touch:
We put this issue to Infrastructure Minister, Chris Thomas who confirmed it was something he was aware of.
He described the Ballakermeen's social media post as "another example of the Island's housing crisis":
It's an issue which has also been picked up by unions. Local negotiating secretary for the NASUWT Geraldine O’Neill says the cost of living crisis is affecting teachers’ ability to pay rent
