"I'm sure this is a wonderful TT for you all but rules are rules"
Two visitors from Scotland and Australia have been fined after bringing drugs to the Isle of Man concealed in a composting toilet.
Keenan David James Bradley, from Edinburgh, and Matthew Shaun Flavell, from Perth, arrived on the Island on Wednesday (3 June) in a campervan.
They drove off the morning ferry from Heysham before being stopped for a routine check by police at the Sea Terminal.
Officers found five ecstasy tablets with a street value of £50, 1.9g of cocaine worth £190, and 8g of cannabis worth £162, concealed in the van's toilet.
Bradley was also driving despite not being insured to do so.
The court heard it was Flavell's 'first time crossing the equator' and the drugs were for personal use, which his advocate said were presumably to be taken 'quietly on a campsite somewhere'.
Advocates asked magistrates to sentence the duo for simple possession rather than producing the substances to Manx shores for gain.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse, Magistrates told the men: 'I'm sure this is a wonderful TT for you all' but 'rules are rules'.
Bradley was fined £500 for the cannabis charge and £400 for driving with no insurance; Flavell was fined £200 for the cocaine and £200 for the ecstasy.
Both will also have to pay £150 in prosecution costs.
