MET Office not forecasting tornadoes today
Forecasters at Ronaldsway Met Office have confirmed a funnel cloud appeared over Douglas Bay just after 8am this morning.
Residents sent in photos to Manx Radio of what looked like a mini-tornado, however we've been told it poses no risk as funnel clouds extend from the cloud but do not reach the ground of the surface of the sea.
Stuart Davison told Manx Radio there's heavy showers expected across the island today falling from cumulonimbus clouds.
He said: "These clouds can sometimes produce thunderstorms and when the air is very unstable tornadoes can occur.
"These are very rare on the Isle of Man and we are not forecasting tornadoes today."
