Wales joined Scotland this week in implementing new legislation
Government is keeping an 'open mind' over legislation which could see smacking banned.
This week Wales outlawed the physical punishment of children, in any form, by removing the 'reasonable punishment' legal defence.
Under Manx law assault of a child under 16 is illegal in relation to actual bodily harm.
But the 'reasonable punishment' defence, for those with parental responsibility, still exists in certain circumstances where no actual bodily harm is involved.
Justice and Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson says she remains open to discussion around the matter:
