Plus immigration lawyer's concerns over new proposals

The health minister says the Isle of Man would probably match the UK when dealing with the immigration health surcharge.

Currently, the fee across is £1,035 per year for adults and £776 per visa for those aged 18 and under.

In July, Tynwald approved the introduction of the surcharge for people applying to live, work or study in the Island.

Speaking on Mannin Line, Claire Christian says it's not expected to bring in 'dramatic amounts of revenue' but everything counts:

Meanwhile, Immigration Lawyer Maria Bridson says the surcharge might have a negative impact on the number of applications to the Island, but for businesses, it's just an additional cost when recruiting someone outside the common travel area.

She told Chanelle Sukhoo that she has wider concerns too about the current system.

Manx Radio has contacted the Isle of Man Treasury for comment in response of some of the concerns raised in that interview.
