Latest figures show rise last month, but CPI in negative territory
New government figures show inflation rose last month – but the Consumer Prices Index remains in negative territory.
Inflation data for August shows the CPI increased to -0.8 per cent, up from -1.5 per cent in July.
The annual inflation rate as measured by the Retail Prices Index meanwhile, rose to 2.6 per cent.
Excluding housing costs, the RPI fell in August to 2.4 per cent from 2.7 per cent the previous month.
According to Cabinet Office statistics, the clothing and footwear category was the biggest riser last month, up 1.9 per cent.
