Former PokerStars employee awaiting sentence
A former Island resident is facing five years' imprisonment, after pleading guilty to illegal gambling charges in the United States.
Paul Tate, 42, was employed by e-Gaming company PokerStars prior to 2011 - when he was named by the FBI as one of eleven people involved with money laundering, fraud and other unlawful activity in the country.
Mr Tate, who dealt in payment processing, is accused of flouting US gaming laws in order to distribute billions of dollars on behalf of banks.
He yesterday pleaded guilty to a single charge in a New York District Court (Thu) - he'll be sentenced on Monday, 21 November.
PokerStars owner Amaya says it has no involvement in Mr Tate's case, and that any ruling would have 'no impact or legal implications' on their business or operations worldwide.
