Isle of Man mentioned in Trump trial

Lawyer 'joked' about being Manx ambassador

A Playboy bunny’s lawyer asked to be made ambassador to the Isle of Man in return for killing the story of her alleged affair with Donald Trump.

The revelation came out during yesterday's evidence at the ongoing trial involving the former US president.

Karen McDougal claims she embarked on an affair which lasted almost a year with Mr Trump after they'd recorded an episode of the TV show Celebrity Apprentice together at the Playboy mansion in 2006.

Ten years later, during the Presidential campaign, she sold the details of the alleged relationship to the American magazine National Enquirer with her lawyer, Keith Davidson, asking the paper's publishing company AMI for more than $1 million for the rights to her story.

Mr Davidson proposed an initial $800,000 followed by a $100,000 salary for the next two years to keep quiet about the story adding "Throw in an ambassadorship for me. I’m thinking Isle of Man.”

Speaking in court on Tuesday, Mr Davidson described the comment as “a joke”. “I know they don’t have an ambassador, but I think it was a reference to Mr Trump’s candidacy”, he added.
