DEFA keen to protect stocks
A quarter of the whole of last seasons catch of king scallops has been scooped out of Manx waters in less than a week.
And that's now led to a temporary daily limit being brought in from today (Nov 15).
The bonanza saw 800 tonnes being brought ashore in just six days.
Fisheries Minister Geoffrey Boot says that threatens sustainability and there's now a limit on the amount each vessel can take daily.
He says fishing boat skippers share the concerns over protecting stocks.
