Vessel towed to safety
Douglas lifeboat was launched yesterday (Tues) following the report of a yacht in difficulties in Douglas Bay.
The all-weather lifeboat Sir William Hillary was launched at 7.25pm to go to the help of a yacht which had run aground just off the northern end of Douglas Beach.
The crew of two had been able to refloat the yacht by the time the lifeboat reached them, but couldn't get any further because of a brisk onshore wind and the incoming tide overpowering their auxiliary engine.
The lifeboat towed the yacht across the Bay into the shelter of Douglas Harbour, where the crew was then able to make their own way back to their berth.
