Five free LEDs for low income households
A government programme, aimed at lowering the cost of electricity bills to those on fixed or low incomes, has been announced.
In a new initiative launched by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, free light bulbs will be made available to people in need of income support*.
Five energy-saving LED bulbs are being provided per household, in an effort to reduce running costs, and improve efficiency.
The LEDs use 90% less energy than traditional light bulbs, yet are more expensive to buy.
Criteria for this scheme is as follows:
*People receiving benefits, income based job seekers allowance, and employed persons allowance.
Disabled occupants, or those in possession of incapacity benefit or disability living allowance.
People on the Manx Utilities’ Priority Care register.
Recipients of Food Bank resources.
Recipients of town/village ‘Coal Fund’ resources at Christmas.
Recipients of financial advice from the Office of Fair Trading.
Elderly occupants.
