Depleted numbers result in quota
It's vital for government to protect the queen scallop fishing industry, according to Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Richard Ronan.
Depleted numbers of queenies have led to restrictions placed on the amount that can be landed for a second year running.
A maximum limit of 1,000 tonnes has been set but that number could be reviewed in the mid-season break.
Mr Ronan says the decision has been made to ensure the industry has a future:
