A proposal for a "living wage" would not be appropriate as part of the work permit process.
That's according to the Minister for Economic Development.
The issue came up in Tynwald yesterday (Tuesday, April 21st) following a question from Onchan MHK Peter Karran, who wanted to know if work permits should be available only for jobs which pay at least a "living wage"?
Laurence Skelly says there is no clear definition of just what that figure may be:
