Man charged with causing girlfriend's death by careless driving

Twenty-one-year-old to appear again in October

A Glen Vine man charged with causing the death of his girlfriend by careless driving has appeared in court.

Twenty-one-year-old Jay Waters of St Runius Way appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He entered no plea to causing death by careless driving and causing serious bodily harm by driving without due care and attention.

Prosecution advocate told the court Mr Waters had been driving his Ford Fiesta along Main Road in Santon on 25 October.

The court heard at around 10:30pm, he clipped a kerb and lost control of his vehicle as it spun into oncoming traffic.

His car hit a Ford Transit heading in the other direction, injuring the driver's legs.

The hearing was told Mr Waters suffered a head injury in the incident and his 19-year-old girlfriend died a day after the crash.

Magistrates said the case should be heard by a Court of General Gaol Delivery.

They bailed Mr Waters in the sum of £500, and he'll appear again on 6 October.
