Incident happened on night of Champions League final
A man’s been jailed after a fight broke out in a pub over a seat during TT week.
Thirty-year-old Michael William Steven Hanger, of Victoria Street in Douglas, appeared for sentencing before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
He’d previously admitted affray and causing actual bodily harm at the Woodbourne pub in Douglas on 1 June.
The court heard an argument involving his friend had broken out about the seat and he’d intervened, throwing a number of punches.
The fight broke out in front of horrified customers who were in the pub to watch the Champions League final.
The hearing was told Hanger’s victim suffered significant injuries which required medical treatment after being punched in the ribs.
It also emerged Hanger had been sentenced for a previous assault just six weeks earlier, and had previous convictions in the UK.
Mrs Hughes jailed him for 18 months for each offence to run concurrently, and Hanger was also banned from entering licensed premises or purchasing alcohol for nine months.
