Man who held knife to partner's chest denies common assault

Pre-trial review scheduled for May

A man from Peel, who's said to have held a knife inches from his partner's chest during a row, has appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

Charles Anthony Watson of Market Street denies common assault.

Prosecutor, Roger Kane, told the hearing at Douglas Courthouse Mr Watson was arrested on Saturday, March 16.

He said police had been called to Mr Watson's home after reports of a disturbance.

Mr Kane said a row broke out and Mr Watson's partner was packing her bags to leave the home they shared with their three-week old baby daughter.

However, during the argument, Mr Watson is alleged to have pushed her onto a bed before punching her in the face.

He’s further said to have picked up a kitchen knife and brandished it in front of her.

Mrs Hughes adjourned the case, and a pre-trial review will take place on May 14.

Mr Watson was bailed in the sum of £500, and must live at his home address, not contact his alleged victim or witnesses and not leave the Isle of Man without the court’s permission.
