Man with ‘appalling’ record for taxing his vehicles admits six offences

Court hears Moore has 20 similar convictions

A Douglas man who has an ‘appalling’ record for taxing his vehicles will be sentenced in December after admitting six further offences.

Martin Conde Robert Moore, of Port-E-Chee Avenue, has had his untaxed cars and vans seized by police as a result.

The 43-year-old admitted having no vehicle licence for them during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

Police spotted his Vauxhall, parked near his home, on 10 August – the tax disc had expired in April and Moore told them it was an ‘oversight’.

However 10 days later officers found two Mercedes vehicles, belonging to him, parked on Saddle Road; the tax had run out in May and November last year.

He told officers the constabulary was only interested in ‘easy convictions’ adding: “Thank god we’re getting a new chief constable.”

On 17 October police found three more vehicles, on Port-E-Chee Avenue, with tax that had expired in June, July and August.

Adjourning sentencing, so the prosecution can consider a deprivation order, Deputy High Bailiff Graham Cook added: “I’m not too sure what your line of business is Mr Moore but you should be paying your tax”.

Moore will be sentenced on 1 December – he’s been bailed until that date.
