Charity urges public not to intervene with fledglings unless clearly injured
Manx BirdLife has issued a reminder following a surge in calls about birds believed to be sick, injured or abandoned.
The charity clarified that it is not equipped to rescue or rehabilitate wildlife, and urges the public to consider the natural behaviour of young birds at this time of year.
During the fledgling season, it is common to encounter young birds on the ground.
Although they may appear vulnerable, Manx BirdLife explained that this is a normal stage in their development as they learn to fly.
Unless the birds are visibly injured, the organisation recommends leaving them undisturbed, as their parents are often nearby and continuing to care for them.
For situations where a bird is clearly injured or unwell, the public is encouraged to contact Manx Wild Bird Aid via Facebook or by calling 242 777, or to reach out to the Manx SPCA on 851 672.
