More than 100 extended holiday requests approved, while 14 declined, figures show

The health minister has confirmed more than 100 holiday requests of over 28 days by Manx Care staff have been approved in the past three years.

Claire Christian was responding to a written Tynwald question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.

Between September 2022 and August 2025, government records show 106 requests for absences of longer than 28 days were authorised.

During the same period, 14 applications for extended leave were recorded as declined.

However, Minister Christian notes that not all refusals are formally logged, as some requests may have been withdrawn or adjusted following discussions between staff and managers.

Ms Christian added the figures only cover personal holiday requests recorded on the government’s HR system, and do not include medical staff, whose leave is managed through separate processes.

She also highlights that some requests initially marked as refused may later have been amended or reclassified, for example as special leave, and subsequently approved.
