Around 600 still using the card for benefit and pension payments
With hundreds of Manx residents still relying on MiCards, a local savings and loans provider says it has been approached as a potential alternative.
As the end-of-year deadline looms, those seeking guidance have been invited to a meeting tomorrow with representatives from four high-street banks to offer support in setting up a new bank account.
For individuals who continue to face issues opening an account, Tynwald has agreed to extend the MiCard system, with a replacement card will be issued, remaining valid for a further 12 months.
Manx Credit Union Chair Gillian Bowles says the organisation has already been contacted by some of the six hundred people who are still use the cards for the payment of benefits and pensions:
