Police bail conditions allow sexual offender to reoffend
A convicted paedophile who continued to download indecent images of children whilst on bail, was able to under Manx law.
Fifty-eight year-old Peter John Quayle of Anagh Coar was arrested in September last year, after police discovered thousands images on five personal computers.
Following confiscation of these, he went and purchased a new machine with his pension money and carried on his nefarious online behaviour from home.
The new laptop only came to light four months later, when he was visited by the police's offender manager.
In a statement issued to Manx Radio, the police explained Quayle was not subject to monitoring because of the type of bail imposed upon him.
Manx legislation does not allow them to place conditions on an offender who is put on police station bail, unlike their counterparts in England and Wales.
Quayle is currently serving two years in prison, after he was sentenced.
