Chair defends use of 17 active NDAs as legally sound, but Julie Edge raises whistleblowing concerns
Manx Utilities is facing criticism over its use of non-disclosure agreements, after its Chair revealed there are currently 17 active agreements in place.
John Wannenburgh defended their use, insisting NDAs are employed infrequently and are governed by legal principles, local legislation, and contract law.
However, he declined to disclose which areas of the organisation the agreements were most commonly used in.
Onchan MHK Julie Edge asked for assurances that no member of the authority had been prevented from whistleblowing or reporting internal concerns.
In response, Mr Wannenburgh read from a pre-prepared statement:
He added that he has full confidence in the board and is 'satisfied' with the information presented to him when NDAs are discussed at board level.
