Mercury rises for solar event

Hopes planet's transit of sun will be visible

There's an astronomical spectacle to look out for tomorrow - weather allowing. 

A solar transit of Mercury takes place around midday (9 May).

The innermost planet of the solar system will be seen as a dark disc tracking across the face of the sun.

Astronomer Howard Parkin says while it's not an incredibly rare event - it's still worth looking out for between midday and 8pm.

He stresses you must never use a telescope or sunglasses to try and watch any solar events directly:
