Ramsey Commissioners says it reflects 'commitment' to providing a 'high-quality' space

Ramsey Commissioners says Mooragh Park has received the 'prestigious' Green Flag Award for the third time.

The local authority says the recognition reflects its 'ongoing commitment' to maintaining the area as a 'welcoming' and 'high-quality' green space.

Lead Member for Parks and Leisure Margaret Webb said the park offers 'something for everyone' and is the 'beating heart' of the town.

The commissioner added that the award 'wouldn't be possible' without the 'tireless efforts' of staff and the volunteers who support the Mooragh Park.

Mrs Webb said: "I am thrilled to share the news that the Mooragh Park has maintained its Green Flag status. This local gem, often described as the ‘jewel of the north’ has once again achieved the benchmark standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces.

"Due to their collective tireless efforts, we are proud to boast that the Mooragh Park exemplifies the required aspects of a Green Flag. The park personifies ‘a welcoming place’, with its ease of access, variety of facilities for all ages and needs and welcoming spaces.

"As a valued family and community hub, the Mooragh Park is committed to promoting health, safety, and wellbeing. The park also provides a welcoming and enjoyable environment for everyone.

"Reflecting the pride and care of the local community, Mooragh Park is maintained to a high standard, with a strong focus on cleanliness, minimising litter, and preserving its infrastructure.

"In keeping with the Island's natural beauty, the Mooragh Park embraces environmentally friendly policies and sustainable management practices. These support the conservation and enhancement of local flora and fauna, while protecting the park's historical features and heritage for future generations.

"The Mooragh Park has always been at the centre of the Ramsey community. From the bustling lake to the welcoming pathways, the park offers something for everyone to enjoy. Children and adults alike have, for many years, flocked to this beating heart of the town.

"Whether you're a rower, swimmer, bowler, or mini golfer, or dreaming of becoming the next Andy Murray or Tony Hawk, the Mooragh Park has always been a place where everyone can get active, have fun, and create lasting memories.

"Over the years, the Mooragh Park has been home to a variety of cafés. Each has brought locals together and welcomed hundreds of visitors.

"Ramsey has always been a musical town. The shelter adjacent to the Lakeside Centre provides space for concerts and performers and the Splash Park provides a backdrop of laughter.

"Not only does the Mooragh Park provide endless fun and opportunities for local children to play and explore, it has also been a provider of care for many children. The Mooragh Hall, home to a nursery for more than 20 years, has cared for many young children - including my own. It has played an important role in the lives of many local families, providing a safe, nurturing environment for generations of young children. The local bowling club is also proud to call the Mooragh Park home.

"The park provides a much-needed slice of peace in the form of the recently rejuvenated sensory garden. With its calming water feature, fabulous floral scents and benches to sit and reflect, this sensory garden is a tranquil refuge from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

"The Mooragh Park is lucky to showcase a variety of local artists with their unique and stunning designs featured in the shelters around the ‘jewel of the north’.

"None of this would be possible without the continued efforts of all the staff who maintain, care, and treasure the park. From the hanging baskets, glorious planters to the numerous flower beds.

"They are integral to the park's life - present, and future. Thank you for all that you do.

"I love the Mooragh Park. My children have loved this Park, and I believe this award reflects the love and care staff, volunteers, visitors and locals show this fabulous facility."
