Final day to have your say on scheme for Douglas and Onchan

A consultation to implement proposed 20mph speed limits on residential roads in Onchan and Douglas ends today. (4 July)

From Monday (7 July), the consultation opens for residents in the north until 1 September to have their say.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about the time it would take people to travel to their destinations if people, in frustration, would attempt 'dangerous overtaking manoeuvres' .

The secretary of Unite's Isle of Man Taxi Branch says members are 'totally' against it and have lost trust in the government.

Mike Birchall says there are 'several worries' around the proposals:

Onchan MHK Rob Callister, who already responded to the consultation, added further correspondence this week around the bus service.

He says further clarity is needed if the bus schedule would need to change, considering the speed reduction would lead to a 10-15 minute delay to people's journeys:

The infrastructure minister dismissed the claims that 20mph zones could delay bus routes by up to 15 minutes, calling them “nonsense.”

Michelle Haywood says timetables already have built-in flexibility and believes any impact would be minimal - at most, a matter of a couple of minutes.

She spoke to Sian and Ben on Manx Radio Breakfast:
